Quantity available calculation on the Material Availability Report

How Material Availability Report works on Quantity Available

Solution ID = KB-339

Version = All Version

Module : SLMFG

Fact : SFC

Database : Progress, SQL

Cause

The Material Availability Report lets you calculate a rough estimate of how much time is required to manufacture an item based on current material availability. The report is based solely on a given item and quantity, or on an existing job or estimate job. It is very important that this report be used only for rough estimating purposes. In an effort to provide relatively quick processing times, several assumptions are made within the report's logic that may not be valid.

Fix

The major assumptions on which the report is based are:

When you run the Material Availability Report for a job, the component quantity issued to the job counts towards the quantity of the material available.

Availability status is given as the system verifies the quantity required, quantity available, date required, and the current date. If availability is different for the date required than the current date, then the system considers the date required incorrect. The required date is replaced with the following message:

"ASAP Date: Not Available. Rerun Report with Required Date = Today."

The quantity availability is determined by the current quantity on hand minus any allocations, with an option to include released jobs and/or POs. If a shortage exists, the amount of shortage is given as well as an order date.

The order date is based on the date required less the lead time, dock-to-stock time, and paperwork lead time. In addition, the longest series of dependent lead times is accumulated and the result is printed as the critical path lead time in manufacturing days.

This report will not show any reserved quantities as available.

Report options that affect the quantity available are listed below:

Include Top-Level Item On Hand: Enter Yes to subtract the on hand quantity from the quantity required for the top-level item. If Yes is entered, then the system considers on hand quantity for the top-level item as available-to-use Inventory. Enter No to omit the on hand quantity from the quantity required for the top-level item. If No is entered, then the report displays the available items or material to manufacture the top-level item. When No is entered, the following options will not be applicable to the top-level:

Use Safety Stock
Include Released Jobs
Include Released Production Schedules
Include Ordered POs
Subtract  from On-Hand

Subtract  from On-Hand: Enter Yes to ensure that any allocations to jobs or customer orders are subtracted when calculating the availability of an item. Enter No to make the total on hand quantity available.

Include Date Sensitivity For: If you select Yes, the option "Subtract Allocs from On Hand" is overridden and available quantities will be calculated for CO's, Jobs and Production Schedules based on the required date of the report.

The following options apply to the top level item only:

Use Safety Stock option
Include released jobs
Include PS Release Status
Include Ordered PO's

The Show Shortages Only, Subtract Allocs from on hand, Include Date Sensitivity for Allocs is for both the top level and the components.
